Parents will be aware that the school sends out messages via a system called Schoolcomms. For the school, one of the biggest benefits of using this system is being able to get information to parents quickly should an unexpected event occur such as bad weather or a school closure. It also allows letters to be sent directly to parents, which is an improvement on trusting children to take them home in their book-bags.
School communications are sent as an email or a text (or SMS) message, and can therefore be received and read on a mobile phone. However there are benefits and drawbacks for each method: emails are free to send but probably get checked less frequently; a text message will probably be read as soon as it arrives but sending incurs a cost to the school.
A better option for the school is for parents to use the ‘School Gateway’ app. This lets you receive text versions of school communications at no cost to the school.
We wish to encourage as many parents as possible to use ‘School Gateway’ to save the school money. All you have to do is download and install the app on your Android phone, iPhone or iPad, register with Schoolcomms and you will start receiving text versions of school communications at no cost to the school straightaway.

School Gateway – installation and setup
The set-up process is simple and should take no more than a couple of minutes:
Depending on the model of your phone, use your phone’s browser to visit either…
www.schoolgateway.com/apple (Apple) or www.schoolgateway.com/android (Android)
You will be taken to the app’s page at Apple’s App Store or in Google’s Play Store. On this page, click the ‘Install’ button to begin the download and installation. If you are asked to “Allow Push Notifications” click ‘Yes’. (Google Playstore shown in image).
Once the installation has finished, find the application icon on your phone’s desktop and launch School Gateway on your phone for the first time. From the opening screen click the ‘New User’ button.
On the next screen, enter the email address and mobile telephone number that you have registered with the school. It is important that you provide the correct information otherwise your account will not be found in Schoolcomms. Once complete, click the ‘Send PIN’ button. (This is a request to the system to send you a PIN!)
Once your email address and mobile number have been entered and verified correctly, the system will send a new PIN code to your phone. You must then enter this PIN code along with your email address (again) into the panel in the app. Now press ‘Log In’. Once accepted the app will be activated for you.
That’s it – the set-up of School Gateway is complete! Now, whenever the school send a message via Schoolcomms, the app will alert you and display it for free.
